Over 1,000 Children Gather for the 2025 Soul Buddyz Congress: Empowering Future Leaders.

In March 2025, over 1000 children from KwaZulu-Natal, Rustenburg, and Mpumalanga came together for the much-anticipated Soul Buddyz Congress. This annual event, hosted by Soul City Institute and supported by the AIDS Foundation of South Africa, celebrated the dedication and hard work of Soul Buddyz Club (SBC) members, while also serving as a platform for networking, collaboration, and youth empowerment.

To assist and/or support the programme officer to implement the NDOH and SCI programme strategy at district and provincial level to achieve the set youth programme objectives, which includes coordinating and supporting the implementation and monitoring of HAST youth-related project plans and Soul Buddyz Clubs in relevant districts.

Soul City Institute has chosen intersectional feminism to guide a new generation towards a society that fully respects the rights of girls, women and gender minorities. We are guided by rights to equality within the South African Constitution, and work tirelessly to achieve access, freedom and equity for those who find themselves on the margins of oppression.

Where we work

The Soul City Institute works in South Africa at a national level as well as at a community level across all nine provinces, through numerous programmes targeted at 8 to 24-year-olds. For almost 30 years, we have developed a social change model that combines popular mass media and social media with social mobilisation and civic participation to promote and protect sexual and reproductive health and to influence positively on the behaviours and attitudes of all members of society.

Who we serve

The Soul City brand is a household name, popular for our ground breaking projects that centre the experiences of everyday South Africans. Our primary focus is to work with young people across the race, gender, sexuality, class, nationality and disability spectrum to develop and grow their capacity to advocate for their rights and be part of the movement to achieve a society in which they can thrive.

SCI is world renowned for its pioneering work in harnessing popular culture to bring about social and behavioural change.

  • Over the years we have reached over 80% of South Africa through our various programmes and our brand – Soul City is loved and trusted amongst different generations.
  • We are a household name through our numerous projects such as the Soul Buddyz Clubs and the RISE Young Women Clubs that have provided space for children, adolescents and young women to learn, create and become leaders in their communities and schools.
  • Our recent talk-show, It’s A Feminist Thing reached over 30 million South Africans, helping them unpack the detrimental impacts of violence against women, girls and LGBTQIA+ people.
  • Through our newly launched Feminist Leadership and Activism Centre, we continue building a feminist movement of young people who will reach their full potential with capacity to disrupt systems of oppression.
